I've found that I use basting brushes often. I think it's easier to spread olive oil, melted butter, mayonnaise, bbq sauce etc. evenly. These don't shed bristles and are easy to clean. I now consider them “kitchen essentials”

I have used bristle-type basting brushes for my entire cooking life. I saw good reviews of this silicone one and decided to try them.
They work really well. I was using heated butter to spread on a roast chicken and was surprised at how much more efficiently the silicone brush worked. I would recommend these to anyone who has the old fashioned ones and they need to be replaced.

Standard rubber basting brushes. My lady seemed to like them she didn't like the ones I had previously because she said that if one of the bristles came out while she was using it, it might appear to be a hair. Not so with these, unless one grows rubber hair.
